183-day tax residency calculator
Many tax systems use 183 days, but each one defines it differently. Add the days you spent in one country, pick its rule and see where you stand.
0days in the country
A counting aid, not tax advice. Rules differ by country and change over time, and a day count is rarely the only test: your home, family, work and tax treaties matter. Check with the tax authority or an adviser.

The rules behind the numbers
- Spain (Ley 35/2006, article 9): resident if you spend more than 183 days in the calendar year, if your main base of activities or economic interests is in Spain, or, unless proven otherwise, if your spouse and dependent minor children live there.
- United Kingdom: resident if you meet an automatic UK test (183 or more days, a UK home, full-time UK work) or the sufficient ties test, and no automatic overseas test (fewer than 16 days, or 46 if you were not resident in the previous 3 tax years).
- United States: resident if present at least 31 days this year and the weighted total of the last three years reaches 183 (all days this year, one third of last year, one sixth of the year before).
